Food to party to… Greece
Adi’s Table (Dunera)
This week for our ‘Food to party to..’ segment, we travel to the mystical, magical and let’s be frank, the originators of the dinner party ethos, Greece! The history of Jews in Greece can be traced back to the fourth century BCE. And there’s no doubt they know how to eat, drink and be merry! Greek food is unlike any other cuisine in the world, with its unconquerable olive oils, fresh ingredients and local spices that blend together into incredible flavours. From the pristine waters of Santorini, to the whitewashed tavernas that dot the stunning coastline, the bouquet of herbs and spices, citrus and sea salt sail on the Mediterranean breeze. Greek food centres around all of what the Mediterranean has to offer, its bountiful seafood and an abundance of fresh vegetables and olive oils, and a big dollop of Chutzpah! For as long as time has been recorded, Greeks love to party and they definitely know how to do it well. So to help to get your backyard party started, here are a few simple yet nostimo dishes that will make your guests want to smash a few plates, sing some dimotiki music and wash it all down with a Greek version of my most beloved limoncello, which is called Liker Lemoniou, but be careful is just as potent as its Italian cousin! So as they say in Greece, Ya mas!!!
